STAR Academy
Saturday, March 7th, 2009At last, we’ve settled on that clever meaning of the acronym in the title for the upcoming novel, in great part thanks to my editor at Doubleday, Amy Black. Interestingly enough, she and I came up with the new title “STAR Academy” independently of each other. It’s a good portent, at least for indicating that for better or worse, we’re on the same wavelength, which I think is one of the most important aspects of any creative partnership. We floated various possible meanings for the acronym STAR, and her combination of Superior Thinking & Advanced Research Academy was ultimately the most amusing and appropriate, for reasons that will become more evident come this September 15th when the book is released.
I was invited to attend a taping of “That’s So Weird” last night and had a blast. It’s a new sketch comedy series produced by the Halifax Film Company here in Toronto. It’s unusual for sketch com in that it is aimed at a tween/teen audience rather than for adults. Lots of smart, wry parodies of pop culture and advertising, as well as some off-the-wall characters created for the show. Great to see such confidence and polish from such young cast members. It begins airing on YTV this September, and I highly recommend that you check it out.
